  • WELCOME!

I am a mother. I am a wife. I am an artist. I eat chocolate, drink coffee and love old movies.

For me life does not happen in front of a studio backdrop. It does not happen in perfectly chosen outfits staging smiles for two hours. Life is made up of ordinary moments with flashes of brilliance lasting only seconds long. It is the connections between people and simple everyday moments.

My hope is to capture images of life that will last long after the moment has passed. Images that will bring you back to the anticipation of your child’s birth or the delicate touch of their newborn grip. Pictures that remind you of your two year old's laughter bouncing off the walls or the wise words you were amazed that an eight year old could possess. Capturing life one image at a time…

I am forever thankful to my husband for supporting my passion for photography and for my daughters Ava and Ella, who inspire and challenge me in so many ways everyday.

Please visit often for a smile, laugh or just to see a little bit of life.

week 5 | 52 weeks of my life

So it may not actually be week 5 of the month because true to form I am behind.  I vow however, to not give up.  This project will persevere and in the end there will be 52 posts.  That I promise.

The Windows.

When we came to look at houses over 6 years ago this house was not on our radar.  When we walked through the door I was blinded by all the amazing windows and natural light.  I had not yet bought a camera. I was not a photographer. But the windows sold me.  This is just our stairwell leading to the bottom floor of our house.  Ava was looking out the window and inspired this little series.  Pure Beauty.

week 4 | 52 weeks of my life

Make me a heart.  When two personal projects collide.

I began working on a special personal project a while ago. One day when Ava was about three Larry was working on the deck.  She climbed on the couch and asked him to make her a heart.  I cannot believe it but I actually had my camera ready.  It was such a special moment and one of my favorite captures ever.  The prints hang in her room to this day.

The thing is, she never stopped asking for hearts, seeing hearts and wanting hearts everywhere.  And thus a project was born.  Capturing Ava and her hearts.  Under my portfolio tab you can find a collection of the hearts I have captured so far.  My goal is 25 hearts.

Heart Art.

week 3 | 52 weeks of my life

A foggy night.

The fog has been incredible all day and all night for almost a week.  The deep hues of the street lights intrigued me enough to grab my camera for an evening stroll.  Such a stark contrast to the white grey of the day.  When I grabbed my camera I envisioned grainy black and white images but those hues that struck me to venture out were too alluring to convert.  I hope to get out with the girls tomorrow morning so I can contrast these with some daytime fog shots.

Week One | 52 Weeks of My Life

For years I have bowed in amazement to all of you fellow photographers that commit to a 365 project.  Seriously, AMAZING! One day perhaps, but for now I know myself well enough, and I definitely do not have that level of follow through.  So this year I am committing to a 52 week project.  Each week I will post a slice of my life.  I am so excited to see where this takes me.

Week One is kinda a cheater since it was not actually taken this week.  Although, an important cheat.  This is kinda the picture that inspired me to follow through on this project.  It was taken this fall back at my parents house.  This window is such a part of my memories as a child and now is intertwined with my memories and experiences as a mother.  Ava has loved this window from the moment she could climb.  It is a place she sings, sits, watches TV, climbs and even pouts.  It is part of her Michigan experience and a part of my childhood home, pretty incredible.  This is what I want this project to capture.

The simplicity of life. The beauty of life. The joy of life.

Wish me luck!
